Derwent Water

Framed and Canvas Prints of Derwent Water

Located in the North of the Lake District near the town of Keswick. Derwent Water has good access to most of the lake shore with views towards the beautiful Borrowdale Valley from Keswick, Catbells from Friars Crag (Keswick shore) and Ashness Jetty.

The quiet, western side of Derwent Water has two large woodland areas – Brandelhow Park and Manesty Park. Both have landing stages for the Keswick ferry and lakeside footpaths.

On the Eastern side of the lake is Ashness Bridge, the most photographed bridge in the Lake District. Probably because it’s very easy to get to, take the B5289 south towards Borrowdale from Keswick, turn left approximately half way down the lake, to Ashness Br / Watendlath. There’s a National Trust car park just yards away from the bridge and stream. But if you ignore the bridge and carry on up the road to Watendlath for a mile or so, you reach another small car park called Surprise View. This has wonderful views across Derwent Water to Catbells in the West and Skiddaw in the North. This has got to be the best high view for the least effort in the whole of the Lake District.
